Road to smart infrastructure
The annual regional infrastructure Conference organized by FIDIC, ACES and EFCA was held for the first time in Serbia on March 9-10th in Belgrade and gathered a large number of consulting engineering companies, contractors, FIDIC (International Federation of Consulting Engineers), ACES (Association of Consulting Engineers of Serbia) and EFCA (European Federation of Engineering Consultancy Associations) members, in-house lawyers from Construction Companies, architects, governmental entities involved in Procurement, as well as financial institutions working for the development of infrastructure, all around the world.
FIDIC, the Federation of International Consulting Engineers, was founded in 1913 and represents the engineering and consulting industry globally. The Federation’s main aims are to implement the consulting engineering industry’s strategic goals on behalf of its 103 national Member Associations. FIDIC represents 45 000 firms and more than 1,500,000 professionals who invoice 350 billion dollars in professional service annually. ACES, Serbian Association of Consulting Engineers, is member of both, FIDIC Association (since 2009) and EFCA – European Association (since 2010).
In order to achieve its principles – FIDIC has defined and adopted the international standardized model of contracts issued for different types of construction projects, for the regulation of contractual relations between all potential participants on the project (investor and main contractor, project managers, subcontractors and consultants). FIDIC contracts have been developed over the 50 years as the international standard for the Consulting industry. They are recognized and used globally in many jurisdictions, on all types of projects.
The focus of this conference was to understand modern technology and technological revolution and how to design, construct, operate and manage our infrastructure and how to become more cost effective whilst improving quality and efficiency in all activities: project programming, procurement and project implementation. Raising awareness about FIDIC forms contract usage all around the world is future task for all of us.
On that occasion, the world experts-internationally prominent engineers, construction arbitration specialists and in-house lawyers of leading companies shared their practical experience and knowledge on the FIDIC contracts and the related procedures for claims and disputes, Dispute Adjudication Boards and Arbitration procedures in construction cases, in order to improve business models.
Law Office Baklaja Igric Tintor, an Associate Member of ACES (Association of Consulting Engineers in Serbia) have participated in the first regional infrastructure conference, held in Serbia. It was the opportunity to gather and exchange experiences with eminent speakers and participants.
The conference was opened by State Secretary in the Ministry of Construction, Transport and Infrastructure, Ms. Aleksandra Damjanovic, who participated in the panel Life Cycle Cost. Assistant Minister for Ministry of Trade, Tourism and Telecommunications, Ms. Irini Reljin also participated in the panel of digitization and the Internet of Things (IoT). At the closing ceremony, Minister of Finance, Mr. Dusan Vujovic addressed to the audience and pointed out that he is very pleased, that this event of great importance for infrastructure sector, took place in Belgrade.
